FBI Special Agent Olivia Dunham is assigned to the multi-agency task force of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security known as the "Fringe Division," which focuses on cracking a "Pattern" of cases involving strange, unexplained phenomena.
Olivia came from a home with an abusive stepfather, whom she once shot in defense of herself and her mother. When she was three years old, she participated in one of William Bell's trials of the drug Cortexiphan, which was designed to heighten abilities in young children.
She was involved in a serious relationship with her FBI partner, Special Agent John Scott, who died in a Pattern-related incident.
Olivia is very close to her sister, Rachel, and her niece, Ella; she is committed to justice and is both able and willing to cross universes to get results. Recently, she was tricked by her alternate universe counterpart and wound up being jailed in the parallel dimension -- unbenownst to her Fringe partners in this world.
